Jane A. Cauley, PhD earned her PhD in epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1983. She previously obtained a master of public health in epidemiology and nursing from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor of science in nursing from Boston College. She is currently Professor and Director of the Aging Epidemiology Program and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Cauley began her tenure with the Department of Epidemiology as a Graduate Research Assistant in 1979. Other positions held include Research Associate, Postdoctoral Fellow, Assistant Professor, and Associate Professor and Director of the Aging Epidemiology Program before being named to her current position in 2002. Dr. Cauley also served as a staff nurse with Home Health Services and Georgetown University Hospital, both in Washington, DC.

Dr. Cauley currently serves as President of the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public Health, Faculty Senate Executive Committee, and received the GSPH Distinguished Alumni Award in 2004. She also serves on the Scientific Review Board of the Neurological, Aging, and Musculoskeletal Epidemiology Study Section, and on the council of the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research.

Dr. Cauley has been published more than 250 times, and her research includes multiple studies on hormone replacement's effects on bone mineral density and fracture risk, and longitudinal studies on fall and fracture risk in men and women.
